April 11th.  Over $1500 was raised to benefit local youth groups.  Groups that benefited from this event are: Greater Rumford Community Center, Mexico Recreation Department, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Western Maine Junior Rifle Club, Area Youth Ministry, Area Youth Football, Area Youth Football Cheerleaders and the Mexico Explorers (junior police).  All money raised will be divided evenly amongst these groups.  

November 17th - Play-off for the trophy for summer bash bean-bag toss was held in social room with Bill & Shirley Twidwell taking the honnors.  Their names will be engraved on the trophy and placed in the trophy cabinet with the honnors until the next contest with the winners of that event having their names added to the trophy.

Voting held to continue to allow smoking in the Eagles Club.

   As required by state law, Monday, Sept 22nd voting was held to continue to allow smoking in the Rumford Eagles club.  By a 5 to 1 ratio, the vote was in favor of continuing to allow smoking at the Rumford Eagles Club.  By law on this issue will be voted on again in another three years. 

2008 Member Appreciation Day

(Summer Bash) September 6th

This year’s Member Appreciation Day was held Saturday, September 6th. Members had the opportunity to choose Lobster or Prime Rib with the fixings for a cost of $15 per person (no refunds this year). However, members were allowed up to two $5 discounts for contributions they had given to club over the past year making it possible to eat for as little as $5.

 In the evening  "Backlash"  performed and  a great time was had by all.   See pictures on the forms/photos page.

contributions allowed for discounts include:   

  • Primary proposer on an application for new member

  • attends four aerie or auxiliary meetings

  • Helps for different events

  • Participates in a function or a league

  • is an officer or on a committee

  • signs the weekly book 10 times (good for one discount only)

 

 Local Student wins prize in F.O.E. International Contest

Matt Plante, local contest committee chairman, hands a $100 check to Chad Berry for 2nd Place in the 4th grade category in the “What I Like Best About My Home Town” Art Contest. Standing with Chad are his proud parents and brother.

The announcement was made by Fred Allen, President of local Eagles Aerie #1248, that their local Eagle Aerie has sponsored a winner in the Eagles International Art Contest. Chad Berry from Peru Elementary School was the proud winner of a $100 check from the Grande Aerie.
“We are tremendously proud of Chad and of all the students whose entries indicate pride and knowledge of their community.” said Allen.
The “What I Like Best About My Home Town” Art Contest has been sponsored by the F.O.E. for 32 years. It is held in April, which the Eagles have designated as “Boost Your Home Town Month” throughout the United States and Canada.
The purpose of the contest, open to students in grades three through six, is to promote community pride and awareness. Local Eagles Clubs invite students in their communities to participate, and entries are forwarded for judging to the international F.O.E. headquarters in Grove City, Ohio.
The F.O.E. has 1.1 million members in Aeries and Auxiliaries throughout the U.S.A. and Canada
All of the Drawings and the other 16 winning entries will be on display at the F.O.E.’s International convention in Louisville, Kentucky August 11th , 12th ,13th and 14th ,2008
